PROVIDENCE MEDICARE ADVANTAGE · 2027
Providence Health Plan has announced that its Medicare Advantage plans will not be offered in 2027. If you’re a member in Vancouver, Clark County, or the Portland area, your coverage continues through December 31, 2026. Most members will need to choose new coverage for 2027; some will be moved automatically, as explained below.
Updated October 2026, based on Providence Health Plan’s announcements and Medicare.gov. Your official plan notice is the final word on your dates and options. Lewis Health Insurance is not affiliated with Providence.
WHAT’S CHANGING
A plan ending can feel alarming. Your coverage today has not changed, and you have time to make a careful choice.
Keep using your Providence Medicare Advantage plan as usual for the rest of 2026, including your doctors, prescriptions, and appointments.
You’ll need new coverage for 2027. For most members who don’t choose a plan, that means Original Medicare with no drug coverage. There are exceptions; see the questions below.
The plan ending doesn’t close Providence hospitals or clinics. Whether you can keep seeing your doctors in 2027 depends on the coverage you choose next.
YOUR TIMELINE
The simplest path. Choose new coverage by December 7 and it generally starts January 1, with no gap between your Providence plan and your new coverage.
Medicare enrollment periods ↗When a plan isn’t renewed, Medicare gives its members extra time to choose another plan, through the last day of February. Your plan notice confirms your dates. Unless you’re moved to new coverage automatically or have other drug coverage, choosing after December 31 means a later start date and a gap in drug coverage.
Special enrollment periods ↗When a Medicare Advantage plan leaves Medicare, you may have a guaranteed issue right to buy certain Medigap policies without health questions. The window generally runs from 60 days before your plan coverage ends to 63 days after. Which policies are available depends on when you became eligible for Medicare.
Medigap rights at Medicare.gov ↗Providence says coverage for current Medicare Supplement (Medigap) members remains in effect at this time, and that members will receive individual notice well in advance of any changes for 2027.

No action is needed to keep your 2026 coverage. October 15 is when you can start choosing 2027 coverage. Starting early gives you time to check doctors and prescriptions without a deadline rush.
Not necessarily. Providence hospitals and clinics are separate from the Providence insurance plan. Whether a doctor is covered in 2027 depends on the plan you choose, so confirm each doctor with the plan before you enroll.
For most members, you’ll have Original Medicare starting January 1, 2027, without prescription drug coverage. You can still choose a plan during the special enrollment period, and enrolling by December 31 still starts coverage January 1. Going without creditable drug coverage for too long can lead to a late enrollment penalty. Your plan notice explains your options.
Yes. Some Providence members who have both Medicare and Oregon Health Plan coverage will automatically move to a CareOregon plan on January 1, 2027, and can choose a different plan during Annual Open Enrollment (CareOregon announcement). If you get Extra Help with drug costs, Medicare generally assigns you to a stand-alone drug plan, and you can still choose another plan. If your Providence coverage comes through a former employer or union, follow the instructions from your retiree plan before enrolling in anything on your own.
Be careful. Medicare rules generally don’t allow agents to make unsolicited sales calls, and Medicare will not call to sell you a plan. Don’t give your Medicare number to an unexpected caller. If you’re unsure, hang up and call the number on your card or 1-800-MEDICARE.
